Ladies results 3rd December – undefeated

A great week for the ladies section as all teams were undefeated with 3 wins and 2 draws. We’re still seeking that elusive 5 wins which means drinks are on Shrimpy ;)

Broxbourne Ladies 1s – 5   Bishop’s Stortford – 3

p1040939

Brox ladies played regular rivals Bishops Stortford. Always a tough opposition BS were third in the league just under Broxbourne 2nd place, so an important game to keep league table positions.  Brox started well creating a  couple of good opportunities in the first few minutes. But went 1-0 down early on when BS scored from a short corner. The first half had plenty of end to end action both teams good on the break , Katie Naylor soon scoring from a Brox break to even up the score.  Brox went onto score two more from forwards Jo Shrimpton and Miranda Hall taking their chances in the circle. BS came back to even the score at 3-3 just as the half time whistle went. Brox had a shaky first 15 minutes in the second half and looked like they would struggle to keep the goals out, but keeper Kim Bames put in an excellent performance making several great saves including a penalty flick. Katie Naylor gave Brox the lead again 20 minutes in which allowed Brox to regain their  confidence. Soon after Kay Finch scored from a short corner giving Brox breathing room. Brox dominated the latter part of the second half,  BS never looked like they could  muster another comeback.  Final score 5-3 to Brox, now the highest scoring team in the league and securing second place positioning.

Next Match: Old Loughtonians (H- 13:30) Current League Position: 2nd

Broxbourne Ladies 2s – 2 Leighton Buzzard 1s -1

The 2s extended their unbeaten run to five games with a hard fought win over Leighton Buzzard which moves them up to third in the league table…who would have thought it after that infamous trip to Bedford. Bit of a frustrating game to start with as despite most of the possession, we were unable to find the back of the net in the first half. Leighton Buzzard nearly broke my finger with a short corner shot but apart from that they largely untroubled our goal during the half. The second half was a bit more even possession wise, Broxbourne got the early breakthrough when Liz Cobb scored. The lead was short lived as the visitors equalised shortly after…the first goal the 2s had conceded in over 5 hours of hockey. It looked like the game was heading towards a draw before Yaz hammered one in to take all four points and avenge the 5-3 defeat they inflicted early in the season.

Next Match: Tring (H – 12:00) Current League Position: 3rd

Broxbourne Ladies 3s – 2 Rickmansworth – 2

Goals: Vegie (2)

Next Match:   Harpenden (A – 1130)   Current League Position: 4th

Broxbourne Ladies 4s – 2  Stevenage – 2

The 4 fought back from 2 goals down to earn a draw. The day started with only 9 players and ended up with around 15 turning out in one way or another. Titch donned the pads, while I swapped saving goals for attempting to score them (and failed miserably). The defence once again had a go at being forwards as Lydia Easton and  Bryony  got on the score sheet, a short corner stunner from Bryony securing the 2 points for a draw, and leaving her just 8 goals behind top scorers Milly & Danielle…..are you getting worried guys ;)

Next Match: Welwyn (A – 1000) Current League Position: 4th

Broxbourne Ladies 5s – 2  Hertford – 1

Goals: Sophie Goodeve (2)

Next Match: No Game   Current League Position: 7th

That’s it for this week, Saturday sees the last lots of matches before the Christmas break and don’t forget the party on Wednesday 14th December
